The bike fitting approach
An efficient fit is worthless if it is not a fit with which you are comfortable and can maintain for the distance. The human anatomy is just not that precise, it is complex and can vary greatly among people. Our fitting protocol is designed to give you a fit that is efficient but at the same time comfortable and maintainable. Our fit system addresses each person on an individual basis and accounts for each person’s unique anatomy, flexibility, age, range of motion, and riding style — things that can’t be derived by taking a few precise measurements and applying a formula.
Whether you bought your bike here or somewhere else, if you're interested in a great fit call or come in to set up an appointment. When you come for your fit be sure to bring in or wear your cycling clothes and shoes your ride in. First we will interview you to best determine your needs and expectaions. We'll then measure you and your bicycle and components and mount the bicycle on a stand so that we can look at you riding and observe your position and current adjustments.
Our Comfort Fit is our entry level fitting service. This level is great for those perhaps just getting into cycling and who want to make sure their first bike is perfectly set-up to their needs. The fitting is tailored very much to the individual and we will be looking at how you ride and how your body copes with the riding position as we make adjustments. Our fitting protocol is designed to give you a fit that is efficient but at the same time comfortable and maintainable.
The Bike Fit process consists of an initial screening interview, a current bike measurement, a physical assessment (off the bike), followed by an on the bike assessment. Particular attention will placed on any current on and off the bike issues, discomforts, and injuries. The fitting will reflect these considerations and outcomes. Our aim is to deliver a Bike Fitting suited to the individuals’ needs and goals, whether this is to ride in in comfort or to ride for performance.
Saddle analysis & fitting, cleat set-up, and Aerobar (Tri –bar) set-up can be added onto the Comfort Fit service for an additional charge.
Our Performance Fit is the full (but not Specialist) level of bike fitting. It is suited to riders who require attention to detail regarding the bike set-up and their position on the bike. The Bike Fit process consists of an initial screening interview, a current bike measurement, a full off the bike physical assessment (posture, flexibility and stability), followed by an on the bike assessment. Particular attention will placed on any current on and off the bike issues, discomforts, and injuries. This level of fitting allows for attention to cleat and shoe set-up, and saddle analysis and testing (using Selle Italia ID Match measurement).
The off the bike assessment and discussions, leads to the dynamic, on the bike analysis and adjustment. Recommendations on suitable saddles and handlebars may be fitted for testing. Saddle height, saddle for and after, and handlebar position will be assessed using industry recognised equipment (including laser and video analysis where needed). Naked-eye, common-sense, and rider feedback, are all used with reference to previous injury and comfort.
A 4 week review is also included in this fitting, allowing re-evaluation and further adjustment after the initial settling in period.
The Specialist fit is relevant to Time Trial riders (including Tri/Duathletes, Ironman) & riders in need of Aerobar set-up. The fit includes all aspects of the Performance Fit (using Time Trial bike parameters). Additional time and attention is given to the Aerobar fitting and set-up in respect to aerodynamic requirements and physical tolerances. Allow up to 3 hours for this Bike Fitting service.
